Airdrop, Airplay & Handoff, Picture in Picture, CarPlay

Airdrop

Airdrop allows you to share instantly with people nearby. You can turn airdrop off, allow airdrops only from people in your contacts, or you can receive airdrops from anyone.

AirPlay & Handoff

AirPlay is a feature that allows you to stream or share content from your Apple devices to your Apple TV, AirPlay 2-compatible smart TV, or Mac. You can mirror what’s on your device’s screen, stream a video and share your photos.

Automatically AirPlay to TVs

You can choose Never, Ask, or Automatic. For security reasons it is recommended that you keep it off unless you would like to use it.

Transfer to HomePod

When playing media, bring an iPhone close to the top of the HomePod to transfer what’s playing.

Handoff

Handoff lets you start something on one device and instantly pick it up on other devices using your iCloud account. The app you need appears in the app switcher and in the Dock on a Mac.

Picture in Picture

When you swipe up to go to the home screen or use other apps, videos and FaceTime calls will automatically continue in Picture in Picture.

CarPlay

Set up CarPlay by connecting your iPhone and your vehicle using your vehicle’s USB port or its wireless capability.

Ensure that Siri is enabled on iPhone

To enable Siri on your iPhone, navigate to Settings > Siri & Search, then turn on one of the following:

  • Press Side Button for Siri (on an iPhone with Face ID)

  • Press Home for Siri (on other iPhone models)

Connect using USB

Connect iPhone to your vehicle’s USB port using an Apple-approved Lightning to USB cable.

The USB port may be labeled with the CarPlay logo or an image of a smartphone.

Connect wirelessly

Note: Some vehicle models may not be able to support your iPhones CarPlay feature.

If your vehicle does support CarPlay you can follow the steps below:

  • If your vehicle does supports wireless CarPlay, do one of the following (you may want to check out your owner’s instruction manual for more details):

    • Press and hold the voice command button on your steering wheel.

    • Make sure your vehicle is in wireless or Bluetooth pairing mode.

  • On your iPhone, go to Settings > General > CarPlay > Available Cars.

  • Select your vehicle.

Note: For select vehicles in which wireless CarPlay is supported you may be able to pair your phone by simply plugging your iPhone into the vehicle’s USB port using a Lightning to USB-C or Lightning to USB-A cable. Once you connect CarPlay using a USB cable in a supported vehicle, you’ll be asked if you want to pair your device so you can use wireless CarPlay in the future. If you choose to accept/agree, then the next time you hop in you car for a drive your iPhone will automatically connect to CarPlay wirelessly.

Note: On some electric vehicles, you will be able to utilize your Maps app to identify the vehicle for EV routing once CarPlay is connected.

In some of the fancier vehicle models, CarPlay Home will appear automatically when you connect your iPhone.

If you don’t see the CarPlay Home, select the CarPlay logo on your vehicle’s display.
