Phone App – Samsung

Note: To answer a call from full screen you must place you finger on the green or red button to answer or ignore the call then swipe up to actually answer or ignore the call. Simply tapping on the icons will not answer or ignore a call.

To view and change settings for your Phone App, see Samsung Phone App Settings

Keypad

Once you access the phone app on your Samsung phone, the keypad will typically open automatically unless you change the settings which we’ll get to later on. To make a call:

  • First enter the phone number you would like to call.
  • Then click on the green phone icon to start calling that phone number.

More Keypad Options

From the keypad tab in the phone app, click on the More Icon (the three dots in the top right corner) to view more options such as:

Speed Dial Numbers

Once you click on Speed Dial Numbers, you can add contacts/phone numbers to speed dial by entering the contact or phone number next to the number you want to use to call that person on speed dial. For Example:

1 – Voicemail

2 – (123-456-7890) or Lucy.

3 – (098-765-4321) or Tom.

Now all you have to do is dial 2 to call Lucy and 3 to call Tom.

Note: Your Voicemail will always be 1 for speed-dial.

Open to Last Viewed/Open to Keypad

If you read everything above, later on has now arrived. The default setting is for your phone app to open up to the Keypad every time you access your phone app. If you want it to open to the last screen you viewed, for example, recents, then select Open to Last Viewed from the More menu.

Voicemail

You can access your voicemails from the More icon or you can simply speed dial “1” to call your voicemail box.

Recents

Once you open the phone app, click on the middle tab at the bottom of the app screen that says Recents to view recent incoming, outgoing, and missed calls.

View Recent Calls By Category

If you want to view recent calls by category for whatever reason click on the icon right above the recent calls list on the right side, directly to the left of the magnifying glass icon. From here you can view:

  • All Calls
  • Missed Calls
  • Rejected Calls
  • Outgoing Calls
  • Incoming Calls

Then select OK when you’ve selected an option.

Search

To search for a specific recent call, select the Magnifying Glass Icon right above the recent calls list and search for a specific name or phone number.

More Recent Calls Options

Right above your recent calls list to the right of the magnifying glass icon you will see More Options (the three dots). Click on the More Icon then choose one of the following options:

  • Delete
    • This will bring up a screen to delete recent calls. You can either delete all calls by checking off the All Icon in the top left corner or you can check off each recent call individually if you only want to delete some.
    • Then click Delete All or Delete at the bottom of the screen.
  • Show Messages/Hide Messages
    • Show Messages will add recent messages to your recent list.
    • Hide Messages will only show calls on your recent list.
  • Hide Blocked Calls/Show Blocked Calls
    • When you add phone numbers to your blocked list, they will not be able to reach you but you can select Show Blocked Calls and you will be able to see if a blocked contact or phone number has tried to reach you. To revert back to the default setting, select Hide Blocked Calls to remove them from your recents list.
  • Total Call Time
    • From here you can see the total time spent on Incoming and Outgoing calls.
  • Open to Last Viewed/Open to Keypad
    • When you open the phone app you can select Open to Last Viewed so when you open the phone app you will be on whatever tab you previously had opened or you can keep the defaulted Open to Keypad so every time you open the phone app it will open with the Keypad tab selected.

Contacts

At the bottom left corner of the phone app screen you will see Contacts. From here you can open the contacts app and select a contact you want to call, message, add or edit.
