Phone App Settings – Samsung

Call Settings

To get to Call Settings you can either open up the More Icon (the three dots) directly from the Keypad or Recents tabs in the phone app or you can go to Settings > Apps > Samsung App Settings > Call Settings.

Blocked Numbers

From the blocked number tab you can add phone numbers to your blocked numbers list by:

  • Typing in the phone number.
  • Selecting a phone number from recents.
  • Selecting a Contacts.
  • Then click on the Green Plus Sign (+) on the right to add the phone number/contact to your block list.

Block Unknown/Private Numbers

When this switch is turned on you can block any number that isn’t saved in your contacts or numbers that call you on private.

Call Background

From the Call Background setting you can change your call background when someone calls you to a picture or video. You can change the call background to a preset call background, or you can create a background with the custom emoji you created from the AR Zone, or you can choose a photo or video from your Photo Gallery.

Layout

Select layout to choose how the contact information shows up when you’re receiving a call.

Call Alerts and Ringtone

Call Alerts

With Call Alerts, you can customize how you’re alerted when you receive a phone call.

  • Vibrate When Answered
    • Your phone will vibrate when you answer a call.
  • Vibrate When Call Ends
    • When you end a call or the other person hangs up, your phone will vibrate.
  • Play Tone When Call Connects
    • You will here a quick sound when your phone connects to a call to signal that the call is going through when you perform an outgoing call.
  • Play Tone When Call Ends
    • You will here a quick sound when you end a call to signal that you have hung up the phone.
  • Allow Alarm/Notification Sounds in Calls
    • If you have an alarm, event, or any other app notifications while you are on a call, you will still be notified with a sound to alert you of a notification.

Ringtone and Keypad Tones

Customize your ringtone and the sounds your keypad makes when entering numbers.

  • Ringtone
    • There are a variety of preset ringtones to choose from or you can click on the Plus Icon (+) in the top right corner to add a custom ringtone.
  • Call Vibration Pattern
    • Select a call vibration patterns or select Silent.
  • Vibrate While Ringing
    • If you want your phone to vibrate while it’s ringing turn this setting on.
  • Play Sound for Keypad Taps
    • You will here a clicking sound while you’re typing in a number on the keypad.
  • Vibrate for Keypad Taps
    • You will feel a vibration when you are typing in a number on the keypad.

Answering and Ending Calls

  • Read Caller Names Aloud

    • This will read aloud the name of the contact that is calling you.
  • Answer Automatically

    • You won’t have the option to either answer or deny an incoming call, it will just automatically answer the call.
  • Press Volume Up to Answer Calls

    • Instead of just swiping on the screen to answer a call, you will have the options to click the volume up button on the side of the phone to answer phone calls.
  • Press Side Key to End Calls

    • Instead of tapping the end call icon on the screen to end a call you can click the side button to end a call.

Quick Decline Messages

When you are declining a call for whatever reason wether you are in a meeting, at work, or busy with something in general, you can decline the call and send the person who is calling a prewritten message with a quick tap on the screen. You can add or delete quick messages from this setting and they will show up on a list when you decline a call.

Call Display While Using Apps

From here you can control how you will see incoming calls while you’re using an app. You can choose between:

  • Full Screen
  • Small Pop-Up
  • Mini Pop-Up

Keep Calls in Pop-Up

Instead of the call you answer switching back to full screen when you answer a call, you can keep the answered call in the pop-up window so you can continue with the app that you were using while you’re on a call.

Realtime Text

Realtime text (RTT) is a way to text while you’re on a call.

Wi-Fi Calling

You can turn on Wi-Fi Calling from here. 

Voicemail

From here you can see your Voicemail Service Provider, Voicemail Number, and Alert Notifications.

Service Provider

This is the service provider that your voicemail is attached to i.e. T-mobile, Verizon, ATT etc.

Voicemail Number

This is a unique number specific to your voicemail box.

Voicemail Notifications

Alert

If you select Alert instead of Silent you will be given the following options:

  • Show as Pop-Up: This will show alerts as pop ups all the time instead of using the full screen to alert you. While you are using your phone the alerts will show up as pop-ups regardless.
  • Sound: Choose from a variety of custom and preset sound for your alerts.
  • Vibrate: Your phone will vibrate as well as make a sound to alert you.
  • App Icon Badges: Badges will display a red/orange circle in the top right corner of the app on your home screen to let you know that the app has unseen notifications.
  • Lock Screen: On your lock screen you will see the notification without the contents of the notification if you select Hide Content or you can select Don’t Show Notifications if you want nothing to pop up on your lock screen when you get a voicemail.
  • Ignore Do Not Disturb: When this is turned on, you will receive voicemail notifications even if you have your phone in Do Not Disturb.
Silent

If you select notifications to be Silent you will have the following options:

  • Minimize Notifications: This just reduces the size of the notification to be less prominent.
  • App Icon Badges: Badges will display a red/orange circle in the top right corner of the app on your home screen to let you know that the app has unseen notifications..
  • Lock Screen: On your lock screen you will see the notification without the contents of the notification if you select Hide Content or you can select Don’t Show Notifications if you want nothing to pop up on your lock screen when you get a voicemail.
  • Ignore Do Not Disturb: When this is turned on, you will receive voicemail notifications even if you have your phone in Do Not Disturb.

Supplementary Services

Show Your Caller ID

This settings is usually on Network Default which means whatever the default setting is for your Mobile Network Provider i.e. T-Mobile, AT&T, Verizon etc. You can leave this setting on Network Default or you can choose to Always show your caller ID or Never show your caller ID.

Call Forwarding

Call forwarding will forward your incoming calls to another person or a different one of your phone numbers. This can be useful in situations where maybe you have a co-worker or business partner that you want to take customer calls while you’re in a meeting, off work, or on vacation so you’re calls will now be received from a different phone number.

Always Forward

Input a phone number so your calls will be forwarded at all times.

Forward When Busy

The Forward when busy feature will forward incoming calls while you are currently on a phone call or if you don’t pick up the phone after 3-4 rings.

Forward When Unanswered

Your calls will be forwarded whenever you don’t answer a call.

Forward When Unreachable

Your calls will be forwarded when your phone is off or it has no mobile or Wi-Fi connection.

Call Waiting

Call waiting will still allow incoming calls to come through while you are currently on a phone call. When this setting is off, incoming calls will go straight to voicemail while you’re on a call.

Fixed Dialing Numbers

Fixed dialing is a feature where the specific SIM Card you are using can only send and receive calls from specified phone numbers. You can not change any numbers on the list after this is set up unless you enter a pin number. You will have the following options:

  • Turn On FDN
    • Enter the pin to turn on FDN (The pin should be “0000”) if it doesn’t work, check with your wireless carrier for more information.
  • Change PIN2
    • Enter your PIN2 to change it. (It’s usually “0000” if you haven’t set one up before)
  • FDN List
    • This will show a list of all the phone numbers this SIM Card has connection to.

Other Call Settings

Hide Contacts Without Numbers

Any contacts without phone numbers will be hidden.

Show Caller Information

This will show information such as when you last talked to a contact, important dates, and more.

Show Contacts Numbers in Calls

When this is on you will see both the contacts name and phone number when you make or receive a call. When this is off you will only see your contacts name.

Swipe to Call or Text

When this is on you can swipe right on a contacts name to call them or you can swipe left on a contacts name to send them a text message.

Hearing Aid Compatibility

This will adjust your phones audio so it’s more compatible with hearing aids.

Permissions

App permissions allow the app access other apps or tools that help features of the phone app to work. Some permissions are required for you to use the apps basic functions. In this case, Phone, Contacts, Call Logs, Camera, and SMS are required to use the phone app.
