Hearing Enhancements

Note: If you want to use a bluetooth hearing aid with your device make sure you pair it to your device first. Each bluetooth devices pairing instructions may be different so make sure you contact the manufacturer for assistance.

Change the default settings to customize Hearing Enhancements to your needs as everyones hearing impairment may be different

To change your hearing settings, go to Settings > Accessibility > Hearing enhancements. Then choose which options to customize based on your needs. These features include:

Real Time Text

Real time text is an alternative to TTY (teletypewriter/text telephone) devices. You can use RTT (real time text) to communicate with text while on a voice call. From here you can turn on the RTT call button to always be visible. Once this setting is on you can connect a external TTY keyboard which you can then turn on TTY full, TTY HCO, and TTY VCO

Live Transcribe

From here you can download the Live Transcribe app so you can display live speech on the device screen and add a Live Transcribe shortcut once it is downloaded.

Live Caption

This will generate captions once speech is detected on your device. Some of the Live Caption settings include:

  • Languages

    You can change the language of the captions

  • Hide Profanity

    This will hide any words that you may not want to see or want the person that you are helping to set this up for to see

  • Show sound Labels

    Sound labels will indicate laughter, applause, music, etc.

  • Live Caption in volume control

    You can toggle this on and off here

  • Caption Calls

    From here you can keep caption calls on at all times, ask, or turn it off

Caption preference

This will allow you to adjust how captions appear. You can alter the caption size and caption style to change the color if you also have a vision impairment. You can also change the language on some apps as well.

Sound Notifications or Sound detectors

This will have your phone listen to sounds that you want to be notified about, such as a smoke alarm going off or a baby crying. You can also add Flash Notifications to make your screen flash during alarms.

Hearing aid support

With this setting you can change and improve the sound quality with hearing aids. You can also pair compatible hearing aids with bluetooth. If you want to pair your hearing aids with your device, click on Bluetooth hearing aids, then Continue. Follow the instructions on-screen to connect your device with your hearing aids. If your having trouble you may want to contact the hearing aid manufacturer for help.

Amplify ambient sound

Your headphones may have the capability to increase the volume of noises around you. Click on the switch to turn this feature on. Once it’s on you will see the accessibility icon in your navigation bar.

Adapt Sound

Adapt sound will personalize your sound quality based on your age with preset options or you can click on Test my hearing to customize the sound quality to your ears specifically.

Mute all sounds

This will silence all sounds on your phone

Mono audio

This will allow you to toggle between stereo and mono audio.

Left/right sound balance

If one ear is better than the other you can drag the slider at the bottom of the screen to adjust the sound coming from the right or left side of your device/connected device speakers.
