Camera App Settings – Samsung

Intelligent Features

Scene Optimizer

The Scene Optimizer will adjust and edit photos automatically after you take them to get the best picture possible. If you prefer to edit photos yourself, turn this setting off.

Shot Suggestions

Shot Suggestion is an intelligent feature that displays a graphic target that will direct you towards the best photo composition.

Scan QR Codes

QR Codes are little graphic boxes of information that direct you to a website. Ideally you want to keep this setting on since QR Codes are so widely used these days. Restaurants, for example, typically have QR Codes at their tables so customers can access the menu through their phones.

Pictures

Swipe Shutter Button

When you swipe on the shutter button (the button you take a picture with) you can automatically:

  • Take a burst shot
  • Create a Gif

Picture Formats

High Efficiency Pictures

With this setting on you can save storage space by using HEIF (High Efficiency Image Format). This is great to save storage but if you plan to use these images and send them, some websites and apps won’t support these photo formats.

RAW Copies

When this is on you can save to versions of the photo: One in JPEG and one RAW when photos are taken in Pro Mode. Any color or tone adjustments won’t be saved in the RAW copies of your photos.

Selfies

Save Selfies as Previewed

You can save selfie photos and videos as previewed without having to flip the photo. This is necessary because selfie photos will usually generate in mirror image.

Selfie Color Tone

In this setting you can alter your selfies color tone between Natural and Bright.

Videos

Video Stabilization

When this is on, your phone will automatically take out the jitteriness and burred aspects of a video after you take it to make it more clean, crisp, and visible.

Advanced Recording Options

Reduce File Size

Reducing the file size will save storage space without compromising the quality of the videos you take. The downside is that the video will be saved in HEVC format which isn’t supported by some websites but if you don’t plan on uploading the video anywhere and it’s just for your personal use, then this shouldn’t be an issue.

HDR10+ Videos

This setting will optimize the contrast in Video and Pro Video modes you take with your back camera on your phone. Some apps and websites don’t support HDR10+ videos so again if you don’t plan to upload these videos anywhere you have nothing to worry about.

Zoom-in Mic

This setting will match the microphone zoom with the camera zoom while you’re recording in video mode.

General

Auto HDR

This setting will automatically apply High Definition Resolution to your photos and videos in the bright and dark areas of your shots which will allow for more detailed shots.

Tracking Auto-Focus

Your rear camera will remained focused on the selected subject in the shot even if they move.

Grid Lines

Grid Lines will help you more accurately point your camera while taking a photo to position different elements in the photo.

Note: The Grid Lines will not appear in the photo.

Location Tags

This setting will add tags to your photos and videos so when you view them in your gallery you can see where they were taken.

Shooting Methods

Press Volume Keys for Camera Features

You can use the volume keys on your phone to control a few different camera features. You can:

  • Take Picture or Record Video
  • Zoom In or Out
  • Control System Volume
Voice Commands

You can use voice commands to take pictures by saying phrases like “Smile”, “Cheese”, “Capture”, or “Shoot” or you can record videos by saying “Record Video”.

Floating Shutter Button

The default setting is that the shutter button is in the middle bottom part of the camera screen. With the floating shutter button, you will see a second shutter button that you can use and relocate to any part of the screen.

Show Palm

With this setting you can put your palm up to the camera to initiate a selfie shot. This can be useful if you want to take a selfie without having to hold the phone. Just place your phone somewhere, show the camera your palm and you will have about three seconds before your photo is taken.

Settings to Keep

Camera Mode

The default setting is that when you first open the camera app you are automatically brought to photo mode. When this setting is on, you will be brought to the last screen you used when you accessed your camera app. For Example, if you last took a video, your camera app will open in Video Mode. If you last used Night Mode, your camera app will open in Night Mode.

Selfie Angle

This setting will keep the last angle you used in selfie mode. Your camera will no longer adjust between normal and wide angles regardless of how many people are in the selfie.

Filters

This will keep the filters you last used on at all times instead of refreshing the filters each time you open your camera app.

Super Steady

If you have Super Steady on in Video Mode then Super Steady will stay active then next time you open your camera app to take a video.

Portrait Zoom

This will keep the last zoom you last used with your back camera in Portrait Mode instead of your camera app reverting back to default zoom settings the next time you open your camera app.

Shutter Sound

When you capture a photo your camera will make a shutter sound. When this is off your camera will not make a sound when you take a photo.

Vibration Feedback

When Vibration Feedback is on, you will notice that your phone will quickly vibrate when a photo is taken to let you know the shutter button has been pressed.

Reset Settings

This will reset all of your camera apps settings back to default.
