Measure – iPhone

The Measure App uses AR (Augmented Reality) to turn your iPhone into a tape measure. You can use it to gauge the size of objects, detect the dimensions of square and rectangular objects, and save photo copies of your measurements in your photos for future reference.

How to Measure

Before you measure an item, your iPhone will ask you to move your iPhone around to get an idea of the area before you start measuring. Once you see a circle with a dot in the middle appear on the screen it’s ready to measure stuff. Then:

  • Using the dot in the middle of the circle, place the dot on the camera at the starting point of whatever you want to measure, then click on the Circle with the Plus Sign in the middle to place a marker at the base of the object.
  • Then slowly drag your camera from the starting point on the object to the other end of an object and click on the Circle with the Plus Sign again to finish the measurement.

Measuring Rectangular Objects

If you’re measuring a square or rectangular object, your iPhone will recognize the shape of the object and measure it automatically. To do this:

  • Move the dot in the middle of the circle on your screen to the center of a square or rectangular object.
  • Once your iPhone camera senses the rectangular object, you will automatically see a measurement box form around the object.
  • When you see the measurement box, click on the middle button with the Plus Sign to add the measurement and you will see the length of all four sides of the rectangular object.

Take a Picture of a Measurement

To take a picture of a measurement click on the camera button (the circle button next to the measurement button with the plus sign) to take a photo after you finish measuring something. Then it will be saved in your photos app.

Recent Measurements/Copy/Send

  • To view recent measurements, click bon the icon with the three lines in the top left hand corner and scroll through your measurements.
  • From here you can copy a measurement and paste it somewhere like notes, or you can send it through a text or email by pasting it in a text box.

Level

You can use the Level feature to get an approximate idea of whether a surface or object is Level, Straight, or Flat. To do this:

  • Click on the Level tab in the bottom right corner of the Measure app.
  • Then simply point your camera in the direction of the object and move your iPhone.
  • To make the object level, point your camera at the object and rotate the object until you see green and 0.
  • If you want to match the slope of another object, hold the iPhone camera against the first object and tap the screen, then hold the iPhone camera against the other object and rotate the object to match the first one.
