Motion

Adjust Motion Effects on iPhone

If you have sensitivity to motion on your iPhone, you can adjust certain screen elements to reduce motion sickness or discomfort, such as:

  • Parallax effect of wallpaper, apps, and alerts: This refers to the 3D-like effect that makes the background and app icons appear to move slightly as you tilt your phone.
  • Screen transitions: This refers to the animation effects that occur when you switch between apps or open and close folders on your iPhone.
  • Siri animations: This refers to the animations that occur when you activate Siri or receive a response from Siri.
  • Typing autocompletion: This refers to the animation that occurs when you type a word and the phone suggests an autocompletion based on your typing.
  • Animated effects in Messages: This refers to the full-screen animations that occur when you send or receive messages in the Messages app.

To adjust these settings follow these instructions:

Go to Settings > Accessibility > Motion.

From there, you can turn on or off the following features:

Reduce Motion

This feature reduces the motion of the user interface, including the parallax effect of icons, screen transitions, Siri animations, and typing autocompletion. It stops animated effects in messages and can help to reduce discomfort caused by screen movement.

Auto-Play Message Effects

This setting allows the Messages app to automatically play full-screen effects. If you turn this setting off, you can still play effects manually by tapping the Replay option below the message bubble.

Auto-Play Video Previews

This feature allows apps like the App Store to automatically play video previews. If you find these animations distracting, you can turn this setting off.

Limit Frame Rate

This setting limits the maximum frame rate of the display to 60 frames per second on iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max. Reducing the frame rate can help to reduce motion-related discomfort.
