Phone Frozen, Glitchy, Running Slow

Sometimes you may notice your Google Pixel is running slow or freezing can sometimes happen for a number of reasons. We’ll go over a few of the common fixes for these issues in this article and how to Fix them.

The Problem: Pixel Is Frozen

The Fix

Soft Reset/Force Restart

If your Pixel screen is frozen the typical fix is restarting the phone. You won’t be able to reset the phone manually if the phone screen is frozen So you’ll have to soft reset/force restart the phone. Even if it’s not frozen a force restart could still be a good option. To do this:

  • On your Google Pixel, hold the volume up button and the power button simultaneously for about 7 seconds.

If your phone screen is still frozen after this then you might want to take it to your local repair center or wireless store to see if a tech can run diagnostics on the phone but a soft reset/force restart will usually fix that issue.

Google Pixel Is Glitchy Or Running Slow

A soft reset/force restart will also fix your phone sometimes if it’s glitchy or running slower than usual so give it a shot but there could be other issues causing your phone to have those problems.

Check Your Network Conditions

Check your Mobile Network Connection and/or your Wi-Fi Connection. Most apps use a network connection to function properly. If it’s only happening with applications, this could be the issue. If it is slow or glitchy while navigating through the phone without using apps then it could be something else.

Software Update

If your phone is having glitchy issues or it’s running slower than usual, check to see if your Pixel needs a System Update. If it does, this could be the cause of your phone running so slowly. The reason is because Android Operating Systems come out with software updates to fix bugs, glitches, security patches, allow your device to be compatible with new versions of application software etc. You want to make sure that you regularly check for software updates or simply turn automatic updates on. Your Pixel will typically update overnight while your phone is charging and connected to Wi-Fi. If you don’t have Wi-Fi you can still update your phone using cellular data. This will use up data on your phone so make sure that you have an unlimited data plan with your wireless carrier. You could also go somewhere that has Wi-Fi to update your device if the former is not an option.

Check Your Phones Internal Storage

Your Pixel could be running slow because your phone’s storage is full or getting really close. Your phone also uses storage to store software updates so if you don’t have enough storage then your phone can’t be updated. You have a few options to clear up your phones storage using the Files App.

Check Power Saving

Pixels Battery Saver is a useful feature that will preserve your battery life and make your phone last much longer than usual. However, this could be the reason why your phone is running slower than normal as it diminishes the use and speed of some features.

Close Out Unused Apps

With out even realizing it you could have a lot of apps running in the background. If you have too many apps open then your phone can reach its RAMs maximum capacity. Pixels are built to have the capacity to keep multiple apps running at once similarly to iPhone, however, when your Pixel is running too many apps, it could still be a reason why your phone is running slower depending on what apps you’re using. Each app in the background is competing for space on the phone.
