Ways To Disconnect

If you need help disconnecting from your device and setting time aside to put your phone down you can utilize tools in this section to do so.

Dashboard

From the dashboard you will see a graph indicating one of three options that you can view from the drop down menu underneath where it says “Dashboard”:

  • Screen Time
    • This graph will show you how many hours you spent on your phone for each day of the week.
  • Notifications Received
    • This graph will show you how many notifications you’ve received for each day of the week.
  • Times Opened
    • This graph will show you how many times you’ve unlocked your phone after your Pixel goes to sleep and locks the screen

Underneath the graph for Screen Time, Notifications Received, and Times Opened, you will see a list of Apps and Websites you’ve visited and an amount of time you’ve spent on each one right underneath each app.

If you click on each app or website, you will be brought to a screen that allows you to view a graph for each of these three categories that are specific to each app or website.

Beneath the graph for each app or website, you will see settings where you will be given the following options:

  • Set App Timers
    • This will allow you to set a timer for each app so you can manage how long you use the app. For Example, if you think you spend too much time on TikTok you can set a timer to let you know that you’ve reached the amount of time that you’ve allowed your self to use TikTok for. This can help you better manage your time so you don’t get lost in the sauce.
  • Manage Notifications
    • These settings will differ significantly from app to app so for more information on Notifications and the settings for different Apps on your Pixel click on the links to find out more about managing notifications and app features.

Bedtime Mode

Bedtime mode will activate features on your phone that will silence your phone, dim the wallpaper, and change the screen to black and white while you’re winding down to go to sleep. Only alarms and important calls will be able to get through while Bedtime is in use.

  • To turn Bedtime on, tap on the button that says Turn On Now. Once Bedtime Mode is on, you can turn it off by tapping on Turn Off For Now or you can tap on Pause For 30 Min if you would like to temporarily disable Bedtime Mode.

Weekly Average Summary

If you are setting up Bedtime Mode for the first time, you will see a link when you tap on Weekly Average Summary to Set Up a Bedtime Mode Schedule that will bring you to the Set Up Screen.

Bedtime Activity

Once you’ve set up a schedule, you will see a chart that will show the amount of Time In Bed and the amount of Screen Time you’ve used while Bedtime Mode is on.

Underneath you will be able to see you’re Bedtime data for the week.

Cough & Snore Info

If you allow access to your microphone, your phone will be able to pick up how often you cough and snore while you’re sleeping.

If you’re just curious or have a specific medical reason for doing this could be a very useful feature to you. However, when you allow your phone access to your microphone keep in mind that your phone will be listening to you all the time. If your phone listening to you all the time is a concern for you then you may not want to use this feature all the time.

Bedtime Routine

You will have three options for setting up a Bedtime Routine:

Use A Schedule

To use a Bedtime Schedule, tap on the time under where it says Start to choose a time when you want Bedtime Mode to begin then tap on the time under where it says End to choose a time when you want Bedtime Mode to turn off.

You can also choose what days you would like Bedtime Mode to turn on so if you don’t want it on your days off, simply tap on the days that you want or don’t want your Bedtime schedule to turn on.

Turn On While Charging

Most of us charge our phones over night so you can select to have Bedtime Mode activate once you put it on the charger. I know you may be thinking, “I don’t want Bedtime Mode to turn on every time I charge my phone.” It won’t, because all you have to do is select a timeframe where your phone will only activate Bedtime Mode while it’s charging during certain hours. Simply change the time under After to initiate the time that Bedtime Mode turns on while charging and change the time under Before so Bedtime will no longer be on while your phone is charging after that.

None

If you don’t want to use Bedtime Mode or you would prefer to only turn it on manually, you can select this option.

Customize

These are a few more options to customize how Bedtime Mode will act with different features.

Do Not Disturb For Bedtime Mode

Bedtime Mode will automatically silence your phone but if you turn this feature on then only calls from your starred contacts, repeat callers and alarms will be able to disturb your sleep.

Screen Options At Bedtime

Grayscale

Greyscale will change your phone to black and white. This could be helpful because the bright colors on your phone will cause your brain to stay awake and be more active.

Keep The Screen Dark

This will turn off always on display so your phone doesn’t wake up and produce light.

Dim The Wallpaper

This will decrease the brightness of your wallpaper to help you fall asleep even if you’re looking at your phone.

Dark Theme

Turn Off Bedtime Mode At Next Alarm

This will deactivate Bedtime Mode as soon as your next alarm goes off regardless of the schedule you’ve previously set.

Focus Mode

If you need a break from certain apps you can select an app or multiple apps from the list on this screen then you will have a few options to set up Focus Mode:

    • To set a schedule, select the app(s) you want to create a focus mode schedule for then tap on Set A Schedule.
    • Then select a start and end time for the app(s) and choose which days of the week you want this schedule on for.

    • If you want to turn off Focus Mode, tap on Turn Off Now.
