Accessibility Shortcuts

Accessibility Shortcuts will allow you to toggle accessibility features from any screen that you’re on without having to go all the way into your settings every time you want to turn a feature on and off.

Accessibility Button & Gesture

From this screen you can customize the buttons ad gestures used to access and activate Accessibility Shortcuts.

Use Button Or Gesture

Choose from here whether you would like to use a button or a gesture to access Accessibility Shortcuts.

  • Buttons
    • If you select to have buttons, you will see a shortcut bubble on the right side of your screen over whatever apps you’re using.
  • Gesture
    • If you want to use gestures for shortcuts, you will swipe up from the bottom of the screen with two fingers

Note: The Following settings will only be accessible if you choose the Button option to access shortcuts.

Size

You can choose the button size to be either Small or Large depending on your preference.

Fade When Not In Use

When this is on, the Accessibility Shortcuts Button will fade away after a few seconds so you can see your screen.

Transparency When Not In Use

With this slider you can choose how transparent or not transparent you would like the accessibility buttons to be while you’re not using them. Drag the slider to the Left to make the buttons less transparent and drag the slider to the Right to make the buttons more transparent.

Shortcut From Lock Screen

When this is on you will be able to see Accessibility Shortcuts from your lock screen. To show the buttons on your lock screen when this is on, hold the volume buttons on the side of your phone for a few seconds.

Preferred Engine

Your default engine will be Speech Services by Google unless you have another engine installed.

Google TTS Options

If you click the gear icon next to the Preferred Engine setting you will be brought to the Google TTS Options Screen. You will see the following options on this screen:

  • Install Voice Data
    • When you click on this tab you will be shown a list of languages that can be downloaded and used by your phone for the Text-To-Speech feature.
  • Use Wi-Fi Only
    • When this is on, your phone will download voices data using only Wi-Fi. This will conserve data usage. This could be important if you have a limited data plan and are at risk of being throttled, de-prioritized, or capped. If you are unsure, contact your wireless carrier for more details.
  • Amplify Speech Volume
    • This will make the spoken text voice louder than usual so it’s easier to hear over other audio that may be playing. Or if you just need it to be louder in general.
  • Language Detection
    • You will be given three options for language detection:
      • Off: If language detection is working how you want it normally.
      • Conservative: You will want to turn this on if the language is switching to fast.
      • Aggressive: You will want this on if the language is switching too slow.
  • Anonymous Usage Reports
    • When this is on, Google will collect anonymous usage reports to make sure that the Text-To-Speech service is working properly. Your identity will not be seen by Google and this helps everyone who is using this feature by allowing Google to add updates where they’re needed.
  • Feedback
    • From here you can personally send an email if something isn’t working the way you want it to, or if you are happy with the way this feature functions.
  • Open Source Licenses
    • I wouldn’t worry about this section too much unless you’re a developer.

Language

You can change the Text-To-Speech language from here.
