When Conversation Categories is turned on you will be able to organize conversations by category.

Tap on Show Notifications if you want to allow notifications from the messages app. If this is off you will have to open the messages app to see if you’ve received any new messages.
Alerts
If you have your message notifications turned on you can choose wether you want to Allow Sound And Vibration when you get a message notification or if you would rather your message to Deliver Quietly.
App Icon Badges
App Icon Badges are the little red/orange bubble in the top right corner of an app on your home screen that tells you how many new notifications you’ve received from that app. When this is off you won’t see an App Icon Badge on the messages app.

More Settings
Text Messages
You will see the following settings for text messages:
-
Show When Delivered
- When this is on you will see that text messages are delivered. If this is off you will not know if a text message you sent failed to send or if the other person didn’t receive your message for some reason.
-
Input Mode
- You will most likely want the input mode to be sent to Automatic. You could also set it to GSM Alphabet if your primary language is English but it is still better in most cases to set it to automatic. Unicode will allow you to use a wider range of characters but it will also use up more storage.
-
SIM Card Messages
- You can see any messages you have stored on your SIM Card from here. Some phones will allow you to store a limited amount of messages on a SIM Card but it’s not much and it may be a little less safe than internal or cloud storage.
Multimedia Messages
You can adjust the following settings for Multimedia Messages from here:
-
Show When Delivered
- When this is on you will see that multimedia messages are delivered. If this is off you will not know if a multimedia message you sent failed to send or if the other person didn’t receive your message for some reason.
-
Show When Read
- When this is on you will see if the other person has read or seen your multimedia message.
-
Download Automatically
- If this is on, multimedia messages will be automatically downloaded. When this is off you will be asked if you want to download the message. It would be safer if you Do Not Allow multimedia messages to be automatically downloaded.
-
Download Automatically While Roaming
- This will allow multimedia messages to be downloaded while your phone is roaming.
-
Attaching Unsupported Files
- You may try to attach a file that is unsupported by the recipient. It would be better to choose the Ask First or Block option from here. You could also choose to Allow unsupported files but if you want to allow some of them then the Ask First option would be ideal.
Push Messages
Push Messages are notifications that will pop up on your phone screen when a message comes through. Typically this is enabled by default but you can turn this off if you want to hear and receive a message notification without the pop up bubble at the top of your phone screen.
Preview Web Links From Contacts
When this is on you will be able to receive links from your contacts to websites on the internet.
Note: If you do not trust a link DO NOT CLICK ON IT. Scammers will commonly send links through text messages that contain malicious content.
Remove Location From Shared Images
When this is on the location of the image you share through messages will be removed. This is usually on by default and it is recommended that you keep it on as sharing your location through an image is not something that everyone needs to know automatically.
Delete Old Messages
If you have this setting turned on older messages in a conversation will be deleted after 200 texts, 20 multimedia messages, or 200 chats. This may be a good feature if you want to save storage on your device but if you want to keep access to old messages on your phone it is not ideal to turn this on.
Emergency Alert History
All Emergency Alert messages you’ve ever received will show up on this screen. You can Delete Emergency Alerts by tapping on the More Options Icon (the three vertical dots) in the top right hand corner of the screen. You can also tap on Settings from the More Options tab to view more information and settings on Wireless Emergency Alerts.
