Connected Devices

This is where you be able to manage and connect bluetooth devices (Cars, Watches, Headphones, etc).

Pair New Device

Note: Both your phone and the device you want to connect to must have Bluetooth turned on in order to pair. To manage your bluetooth see Connection Preferences below.

To pair a new device to your phone, select Pair New Device and select a nearby device from the list to pair it.

Saved Devices

Tap on See All to view and manage your connected devices.

Bluetooth

To turn Bluetooth on, activate the switch next  to where it says Use Bluetooth.

Then underneath where it says Device Name you will see Pair New Device. Click on Pair New Device then choose a device from the list of near by devices you want to connect to.

NFC

NFC (Near Field Communication) is what is used for contactless payments such as Google Pay, Samsung Pay, Apple Pay etc. Or for anything where your device needs to be close to another device to transfer information but not touching. Make sure the Use NFC switch is turned on if you want to use contactless payments.

The use of NFC for payments is actually more secure that using an actual credit or debit card.

It is recommended however that you turn on Require Device Unlock for NFC so that the cards you have stored in Google pay cannot be used unless you unlock your phone. This prevents someone from grabbing your phone and making a payment while it’s locked

Contactless Payments

From here you can see all of the payment apps you have downloaded on your Pixel. The default payment app will be Google Pay but you can download more from the Play Store if you prefer another payment app.

Cast

With Cast you can project your phones screen on to a nearby device such as a TV, Computer, etc.

You will find the list of devices to connect to here.

Printing

You will see all the printers connected to your phone from this screen. Select a printer or click on Add Service to connect and use a printing device.

Chromebook

If your Pixel is connected to a Chromebook you can see and manage connection settings and link up your Pixel to your Chromebook to text from your computer, simplify unlocking, and more.

Nearby Share

Nearby Share allows you to share information quickly with nearby devices and nearby contacts. Turn on the switch to use Nearby Share.

Account

At the top of the list underneath Nearby Share you will see your Google Account. You can also switch to a different Google Account if you have one and would prefer to share information from that account.

Device Name

This will be the name of your device that shows up when you use Nearby Share to send something to a contacts. You can tap on your name and change it if you’d like.

Device Visibility

From Device Visibility, you can choose who can see your device to share with. You can choose:

  • Everyone
    • Use Everyone Mode Temporarily: For privacy reasons, your visibility will automatically switch back to Contacts after a few minutes.
    • Keep Everyone Mode On All the Time: This will allow you to be visible to everyone at all times. Not an ideal setting to use it at your discretion.
  • Contacts
    • Visible to all Contacts: When this is On, any contact within range will be able to see you. When it’s Off, you will be able to select specific contacts that you want to see you.
  • Hidden
    • Exactly how it sounds, nobody will see you.

Any transferring of information won’t be shared or received until you accept the communication.

Data Usage

With data usage you will have a few options:

  • Data
    • Your mobile data will be used in Nearby Share to transfer small files. 

  • Wi-Fi Only
    • Mobile data will never be used for Nearby Share.
  • Without Internet
    • Files will only be shared offline.
Show Notification

You will get a notification if devices are sharing nearby.

Android Auto

Android Auto is an app that allows you to connect your Pixel to your car. To use this feature you must have a vehicle that’s compatible with this feature.

Ultra-Wideband (UWB)

This helps to identify the relative position of nearby devices that have UWB.

UWB is a radio based communication technology that allows for the transfer of data quickly within a short range.
