Storage

Note: This is your internal storage of the phone and if the phone is lost or it breaks, you will not be able to recover any of your personal data. It is highly recommended that you purchase some type of cloud storage.

Towards the top of this screen under Storage you will see a bar that shows how many GB (Gigabytes) of data your phone is using. You will see how much you’ve used to the left of the bar and how much total storage you have on the right. Storage data (different from cellular data) is a combinations of data such as photos, videos, contacts, notes, apps etc. 

Free Up Space

This tab will bring you to a section of the Files App that will have options for you to optimize your storage and clear up unwanted and unneeded data. 

Data Categories

Here you will see a list of each category of data that is in your phone storage and how much storage each section takes up. This can be a helpful visual of what you are storing so you know if you ever need to clean up a certain category of storage. You will see the following categories:

• System

  • System storage is mostly just backups that your phone needs to keep to function properly and cached files. So system storage is basically a combination of longs term and short term storage that allows you to access files every time you open your phone.

• Apps

  • This section of storage will contain of all the apps that you have on your phone.
  • Note: Data on the apps themselves are not stored on your phone. For example, you will not lose any emails if you delete your email app or your pictures if you delete your instagram.

• Trash

  • Not all of your data is deleted as soon as you delete it. Your deleted files will remain in your trash for 30 days before it is permanently deleted and all of you deleted files will show up here.

• Documents & Other

  • This category will hold any sort of documents or miscellaneous files.

• Games

  • Any games you’ve downloaded and saved game data.

• Audio

  • Audio storage will hold any music, voice memos, or other types of audio and audio recordings.

• Videos

  • Any videos you’ve taken will be stored here.

• Images

  • Pictures, screen shots, and other images will be stored here.
