How to use accessibility features with Siri on iPhone

Siri is an easy way to use accessibility features on iPhone. You can open apps, turn settings on or off, and use Siri as your personal assistant.

Using Siri to control VoiceOver To turn VoiceOver on or off with Siri, say “Turn on VoiceOver” or “Turn off VoiceOver”. Siri can also read more information than what appears on the screen when VoiceOver is on. Learn how to ask Siri.

Using Type to Siri

If you prefer typing instead of speaking to Siri, turn on Type to Siri in Settings > Accessibility > Siri. Then, activate Siri and use the keyboard and text field to make a request.

Controlling voice feedback for Siri

In Settings > Accessibility > Siri, choose Don’t Speak in Silent Mode, Only Speak with Hey Siri, or Always Speak Responses.

Enabling “Hey Siri” when iPhone is covered or facing down

To allow iPhone to listen for “Hey Siri” when it’s covered or facing down, turn on Always Listen for “Hey Siri” in Settings > Accessibility > Siri.

Hiding apps when Siri is active

To hide the current app when you activate Siri, turn off Show Apps Behind Siri in Settings > Accessibility > Siri.

Ending Phone and FaceTime calls with Siri

If you have iPhone 11, iPhone SE (2nd generation), or later, or iPhone XR and iPhone XS connected to AirPods or Siri-enabled Beats headphones, you can use Siri to end a call by saying “Hey Siri, hang up”. To enable this feature, turn on Call Hangup in Settings > Accessibility > Siri.
