Zoom

Zoom in on the iPhone screen

Many iPhone apps allow you to zoom in on specific items, such as by double-tapping or pinching the screen. This can be useful for getting a closer look at photos, expanding website columns while browsing the internet, or reading small text. There are two zoom options available: Full Screen Zoom, which magnifies the entire screen, and Window Zoom, which magnifies a portion of the screen. Zoom can also be used in conjunction with VoiceOver.

Set up Zoom

To turn on Zoom on your iPhone:

Go to Settings > Accessibility > Zoom, then turn Zoom on or off.

From there, you can adjust the following options:

Follow Focus – tracks your selections, text cursor, and typing.

Smart Typing – automatically switches to Window Zoom when a keyboard is displayed.

Keyboard Shortcuts – control Zoom using shortcuts from an external keyboard.

Zoom Controller – enable the controller, set actions, and customize color and opacity.

Zoom Region – select Full Screen Zoom or Window Zoom.

Zoom Filter – choose None, Inverted, Grayscale, Grayscale Inverted, or Low Light.

Maximum Zoom Level – adjust the level with the slider.

Using Zoom with a Pointer Device

If you use a pointer device with your iPhone, you can also set up Pointer Control options:

Zoom Pan – choose Continuous, Centered, or Edges to customize how the screen moves with the pointer.

Adjust Size with Zoom – allow the pointer to scale with zoom.

To add Zoom to the Accessibility Shortcut, go to Settings > Accessibility > Accessibility Shortcut, then select Zoom.

Use Zoom

(see Gestures) to turn Zoom on.

To activate Zoom, double-tap the screen with three fingers or use accessibility shortcuts.

To adjust the magnification, use three fingers to double-tap the screen and drag your fingers up or down. You can also triple-tap with three fingers and adjust the Zoom Level using the slider.

For Window Zoom, drag the handle at the bottom of the Zoom lens. For Full Screen Zoom, drag the screen with three fingers.

To access the Zoom menu and adjust settings, triple-tap with three fingers. From there, you can select Full Screen Zoom or Window Zoom, resize the lens (for Window Zoom), choose a filter, and show the Zoom Controller.

To use the Zoom Controller, tap it to open the Zoom menu, double-tap to zoom in or out, and drag to pan. If using Zoom with a Magic Keyboard, the Zoom region will follow the text insertion point and stay in the center of the display. To turn off Zoom, double-tap the screen with three fingers or use accessibility shortcuts.

For iPhones with Display Zoom, larger controls can be displayed by going to Settings > Display & Brightness > View and turning on Display Zoom.
