My Files app Settings

Cloud Accounts

Any cloud services you have will show up here. Options for OneDrive and Google Drive will typically show up by default. You can tap on any option here to navigate to your cloud storage account. If you’re not signed in to any of these services you can tap on the cloud service and it will navigate you to a page to sign in and/or manage the app.

File Management

Trash

When you have the trash setting turned on, any items you delete will remain in the trash bin for 30 days before they’re deleted permanently. When this is off, any items you delete will be deleted permanently as soon as you delete them.

Allow Mobile Data Usage

Your storage will typically update and back up when it’s connected to Wi-Fi. When these settings are on, you will be allowing cloud storage services to download and back up using mobile data. If you have an unlimited data plan with your wireless carrier and you are not at risk to be charged extra, throttled, de-prioritized, or shut off, this my be helpful to use as your cloud will be able to back up even if you’re not on Wi-Fi. If you have a limited data plan or are at risk for the previously mentioned circumstances then you may want to consider leaving this setting off. If you don’t know contact your wireless carrier for more details. You will typically see two options here:

  • Cloud Storage
  • Network Storage

Show Hidden System Files

System files are files on your phone that contain information on user settings and app configuration. These files are necessary to make your phone and apps work properly but you don’t really need to see them. Turning this off may be a good idea if you are a serial data deleter and you delete things just because you don’t know what they are. When this is off you will only see files that pertain to your personal data.

Analyze Storage

Large File Size

In the Analyze Storage section of your My Files App you will be able to see the largest files on your phone that take up the most space. From this setting you can choose how large the files need to be before they appear in this section of the app. You can choose between:

  • 25 MB
  • 100 MB
  • 500 MB
  • Custom Size
