Mail

Set up your email account automatically

If you use an email provider like iCloud, Google, or Yahoo, Mail can automatically set up your email account with just your email address and password. Here’s how:

  • Go to Settings > Mail > Accounts.
  • Click on Add Account, from here you will choose your email provider (Google, Yahoo, Outlook etc).
  • Then enter your email address and password.
  • Then click on Next and wait for your account to be verified.
  • Or click Save if Next doesn’t show up.

Set up your email account manually

If you’re going to set up your email account manually you need to know your settings for your email account, like your email and password. If you don’t know them you can either look them up or reach out to your email provider. Your wireless carrier will not have this information.

Then continue with the following steps:

  • Navigate to Settings > Mail > Accounts.
  • Then click on Add Account > Other > Add Mail Account.
  • Enter your name, email address, password, and a description for your account.
  • Then click Next and the Mail app will try to find your account settings
  • Click Done when finished

Enter account settings manually

If the Mail app can’t find your settings, you may need to do it manually.

To do this:

  • Choose either IMAP or POP for the new account you want to set up. If you don’t know which one to choose, contact your email provider.
  • Now you’re going to want to enter the information for Incoming Mail Server and Outgoing Mail Server. Hit Next when your finished. If you don’t know this information either look it up or contact your email provider.
  • If every thing is correct, click Save when you’re done. If it isn’t it will ask you to edit the information

Mail Settings

Allow Mail Access

From here you can set up and allow your Mail app to have access to:

Message List

Preview

By default you’re emails will show two lines of text when you get an email. From here you can choose between None and Five lines of text.

Show To/CC Labels

If you turn this switch on it will show To/Cc labels in the email previews.

To labels (will show who the email is being sent to) and CC labels (a Carbon Copy on an email will send an exact copy of that email to someone who is on a CC list).

Swipe Options

You can change the action of swiping options in emails when you swipe left or right to Archive messages, Flag Messages, Move Messages, or Mark as Read.

Messages

Ask Before Deleting

Turn this switch on if you want to be asked before emails are deleted in the Mail App.

Privacy Protection

When Privacy Protection is on your IP Address will be hidden and remote content will load privately in the background even if you don’t open the message. This makes it harder for senders to track your mail activity.

Note: It is highly recommended that you keep Privacy Protection On. This will help you stay safe from scammers and other bad actors.

Follow up Suggestions

If you send an email and don’t receive a response for several days, the message will pop up at the top of your mail box to remind you to follow up with another email.

Threading

Organize by Thread

This is a default setting where all emails are in a thread rather than being sent individually. If you prefer to have each email sent and received individually you can simply turn this setting off.

Collapse Read Messages

This will collapse the messages so you’re not having to scroll through a thread of emails but if you’d like to have every message in a thread opened, simply turn this feature off.

Most Recent Messages on Top

Typically you read an email thread and the most recent email is at the bottom of the thread and the past emails are collapsed above it. This will put the previous emails at the bottom instead.

Complete Threads

This will group emails into threads even if they come from another mailbox.

Muted Thread Action

When you mute threads you can either automatically mark them as read or you can Archive or delete them.

Blocked Sender Options

When Mark Blocked Sender is activated you can either choose to leave it in your inbox while the sender is blocked or you can choose to automatically move those emails into the trash.

Blocked

From here you can see all of your blocked phone numbers and emails and you can choose to unblock them from here as well if needed.

Composing

Always Bcc Myself

A Bcc (Blind Carbon Copy) is when you add an email address that can view the email but their information is hidden. You can choose this option if you want your email address hidden from being seen by others in the email.

Mark Addresses

If you are sending an email to someone outside of your organization or domain, you can highlight their email address in red to alert yourself that the email does not belong to anyone inside of your organization.

Increase Quote Level

This will add a level of indentation when you forward or reply to a message.

Include attachments with Replies

Sometimes when you reply to an email that has an attachment, you will notice the attachment is no longer attached to the replied thread. There may be times when you receive an attachment and you need to forward the attachment or reply with the attachment still intact. You can choose a few options when it comes to including attachments:

  • Never
  • When adding recipients (so the new recipients can view the attachments)
  • Ask (you will be asked if you want to include the attachment)
  • Always
Signature

If you would like to add a signature in your emails you can enter the text here. Note: You can only send a text signature not a handwritten image from this setting.

Sending

Undo Send Delay

From here you can give yourself a little more time to choose to unsend an email shortly after you sent it if you change your mind or need to add or edit something.
