Safari – Search

Search

Search Engine

From Safari you can choose which internet search engine you prefer to use such as:

  • Google
  • Yahoo
  • Bing
  • DuckDuckGo
  • Ecosia

Note: Out of all of these search engines DuckDuck go will be the most secure as it hides your search history. You may be sacrificing some convenience versus using Google but Google will share your searches across many different platforms. You just have to decide what’s more important to you, your data privacy, or convenience.

Search Engine Suggestions

Search Engine Suggestions will make suggestions for you as you’re typing based on what you browse for and how you use the internet.

Note: Depending on what search engine you are using and the privacy settings you have activated your search engine may record these terms.

Safari Suggestions

Safari Suggestions will allow Safari to ask your search engine for data that will add convenience to your search results.

Note: When you have this turned on, Safari will communicate your location, and search terms with Apple for the purpose of making your results more geared towards what you’re looking for for your convenience. Apple does not identify you based on this information and uses a 15-minute random, rotating device-generated identifier, However, your search engine will give Safari information to make your search results more convenient so your privacy goes back to what search engine you’re using.

Quick Website Search

This allows a smart search field to give you quick search results by adding the website name as part of your search. For example, typing “Wiki Abraham Lincoln” will bring you to wikipedia’s page on Abraham Lincoln.

Preload Top Hit

When this is on, Safari will preload the website it thinks you will visit in the background as you’re searching for the website it thinks you will go to. For example, if you frequently visit Wikipedias Abraham Lincoln page, Safari will preload the page in the background as soon as it recognizes you are typing in Wikipedia.
