Set up Compass

If you have never used the Compass app on iPhone or you previously deleted it you will need to set it up and calibrate it. To re-download the Compass app, simply download it from the App Store.

iPhones have a built in magnetic field sensor that is used by Apps such as Maps.

Then you’ll want to calibrate your compass by:

• Holding your iPhone face up and flat against your palm.
• Then move the red ball around the edge of the circle by moving your iPhone.

How to use Compass

The Compass app is pretty simple and straight forward. There’s no additional tabs or features to explore within the app. Instead of using a needle the compass navigates North, West, East, and South in 360 degrees. Underneath the Compass you will see:

• The direction and degrees
• Coordinates
• Location
• Elevation

Use True North

True North will navigate to a GPS bearing linked to the North Pole. When this is off, you will be using Magnetic North which depends on the earths natural magnetism that can change based on your physical location.
