Battery

To access your battery settings go to Settings > Battery and Device Care > Battery

From this screen you can view how much longer your battery will take to charge (this timeframe may very depending on how powerful the charger is that you’re using), the percentage of battery you have left, and your usage data since your last full charge. If you click on View Details, you can see how much of your battery various apps have used.

This feature will allows your phone to save battery which can come in handy if you don’t have a charger with you or wont be able to charge your phone for awhile. If you click on Power Saving, you can also view additional Power saving options such as:

  • Turn off always on display

  • Limit CPU Speed to 70%

    • This will decrease the processing speed of your device but significantly limit battery consumption. Unless you are currently using an application where high processing speeds are needed it may be a good idea to keep this on to increase battery efficiency until you need it.
  • Decrease Brightness by 10%

    • Exactly how it sounds, this will decrease your screen brightness to save battery
  • Limit apps and home screen

More Battery Settings

Adaptive battery

Adaptive battery will intelligently analyze how you use your phone and extend your phones battery life based on usage by determining which apps are more important to you than others.

Processing speed

The processing speed on the phone determines how fast you can navigate through the phone and view, use and download content. You have a few options that can manage the speed of your processor which are:

  • Optimized
    • Optimized processing is good enough for most of the things you will use your phone for and is recommended for most people in most situations.
  • High
    • The data on your phone will process much faster than the optimized setting and can be helpful if you notice that some apps are generally running pretty slow but the trade off for higher speeds equates to more battery consumption and the possibility of your phone heating up.
  • Maximum
    • This setting will give your phone maximum processing power but is only recommended for short term use when you absolutely need higher speeds because it will rapidly drain your battery and will more likely than not cause heating with extended use.

Note: These processing settings have no effect on gaming. You can manage games from the Game Launcher

Show battery percentage

This will toggle on and off the battery percentage icon in the top right hand corner of your phone.

Show charging information

This will show your battery level and an estimated timeframe until your phone is fully charged even when Always on Display is off or not shown.

Charging

Most Galaxy phones have Fast charging and Fast wireless charging capabilities (most galaxy models after the S6 and Note 5 will be able to charge wirelessly). When you connect to a Fast Charger, your phone will turn on the fast charging feature. Fast charging is usually on by default but you can toggle it on and off as needed.

Note: Fast charging could degrade the battery overtime but if you upgrade every 1-3 years you shouldn’t need to worry about this too much.

The super fast charging is not available on all models, and you will need a 25-45 watt charger capable of fast charging.

  • To choose a charging feature go to Settings > Battery and device care > Battery > More battery settings.

  • Then click switch next to Fast charging, Super fast charging, or Fast wireless charging.

  • To initiate the charging features, connect the charging cable to the phone, and then connect the power adapter to an outlet.

  • You may now disconnect and enjoy your fully charged phone

Protect battery

This limits the maximum battery percentage to 85% which will help extend the lifespan of your battery if you are someone who keeps their phone for 3 or more years.
