Google – Services & Preferences

Manage your Google Account

From here you will be directed to your Google Account where you can customize settings in your Google Account and Email.

COVID-19 Exposure Notifications

From here you can turn on Covid-19 Exposure Notifications which tells you if you are near a person who has been or is currently exposed to Covid-19.

Services On This Device

 

Ads

From here you can control your advertisement settings in your google account to reset or delete data that allows for personalized advertising on your device

Reset advertising

This generates a new advertising ID that apps can use from now on

Delete advertising ID

Apps can no longer use this advertising ID to show you personalized ads

Autofill

This will allow autofill which means when you are entering your information, google will fill in all the information so you don’t have to such as Name, address, phone number etc.

  • Autofill With Google
  • Phone Number Sharing
    • This will allow google to show you a screen that lets you choose a phone number to share when an app requests your phone number.
  • SMS Verification Codes
    • Autofill Service
      • When you get verifications codes (usually 6 digit codes from apps) this will give you the option to automatically paste the verification code without accessing your messages app.
    • Default Browser
      • This will allow your default browser to enter verification codes from text messages.

Back up

From here you can alter the settings to back up your data to Google Drive, such as turning back up on or off and selecting your account. You can also change the data that is backed up like:

  • Apps
  • Photos & Videos
  • SMS Messages
  • Call History
  • Device Settings
  • Google Account Data
Back Up Using Mobile or Metered Wi-Fi Data

When this is on you can use a Metered Network to back up data.

Devices & Sharing

From here you can edit the options for Nearby Share and casting to your other devices.

  • Cast Options

    • Guest Mode – Allow google cast to scan for nearby casting Devices

    • Media controls for cast devices – Control media from cast devices through a notification

  • Chromebook

  • Nearby Connections
  • Nearby Share
    • To turn on Nearby Share toggle the switch on that says Use Nearby Share.

You’ll then see your accounts and devices that are capable of nearby share. Beneath accounts and devices you’ll see a few options for nearby share settings:

Device Visibility

When this is off, nobody can share with you until you make your device visible to them. When you have device visibility on, all devices nearby can share with you.

Data, Wi-Fi Only, Without Internet

Depending on which setting is on you will see either Data, Wi-Fi Only, or Without Internet. You can toggle between these three options depending on your network needs and preferences.

Show Notification

When devices are sharing near you, you’ll receive a notification.

Find my Device

You can use the Find My Device app to locate your device.

Mobile Data & Messaging

 

Device Phone Number

Choose which phone number uses Cellular/mobile data and Messaging features.

Control How Others Connect With You
  • Use My Number
    • Google will save & occasionally verify your number by exchanging your device info & phone number with your carrier.
  • Use My Number but ask first if charges apply
    • If SMS charges apply for verification you will be asked first.
  • Don’t Use My Number
    • Your number won’t be used to help others connect with you. Other services may still use your number.

From here you can silence notifications while driving

Personalize using Shared Data

Choose which apps and other on-device sources to personalized viewed content using your data. 

Note: The more something is personalized the more data Google will track.
