Reset

IMPORTANT: Reseting any settings on your phone is permanent and you will not be able to revert back to the settings you had before the reset unless you have a back up saved on your phone or unless you go back into your phone and manually change the settings back to how they were before the reset. With a Factory Data Reset you will lose all of your information permanently if it is not backed up or saved on a hard drive or cloud service separate from your device

Soft Reset

This won’t appear in the reset settings but is synonymous to taking the battery out of a phone and putting it back in for those of you who remember flip phones. This will not reset or erase anything on your phone. The purpose of a soft reset is more so to refresh the device. This is slightly different that trying to power off the phone and clicking the restart button. If you are ever having glitchy issues with your device whether it be apps crashing, slower navigation, screen freezing, or any overall glitching, the soft reset can usually fix a lot of minor issues.

To soft reset your Samsung phone, Hold down on the volume down button and the power button on both sides of your phone and continue to hold until the phone goes dark and the Samsung logo appears on start up.

Reset All Settings

This will reset all of the settings on your phone Except For:

  • Security settings: This includes passwords, pin numbers, pattern locks, fingerprints/retina/face biometrics etc.
  • Language settings: Any language preferences
  • Accounts: This includes Samsung, Google accounts, emails etc.
  • Personal data: This includes pictures, videos, contacts, notes etc.
  • Settings for downloaded apps: Any settings you currently have for apps you’ve downloaded

Sometimes reseting the settings on your phone is a good idea if there is an issue with your phone because it may have been a setting that was turned on/off on accident. It is recommended that you go through other troubleshooting steps first but in the case that you do reset the settings all of your personal information will still be there.

Reset Network Settings

This will reset the connections settings on your phone and Does not reset any of your other settings or personal information. A network settings reset Will only reset:

  • Wi-Fi: Reseting the Wi-Fi can help with issues that prevent or limit your phone from connecting to a Wi-Fi network. When you reset your network settings you will need to reconnect to any home or familiar Wi-Fi networks and re-enter the password when doing so.
  • Mobile data: This will help with mobile data issues on your phone and allow your device to refresh and reconnect to your carriers cell towers which could be helpful for network related issues both on your device and cell tower updates
  • Bluetooth: This will reset the connection with any bluetooth devices including your watches, vehicles, headphones, etc.

Reset Accessibility Settings

Resetting the accessibility settings Will not delete any personal information, Network Settings, or Phone settings. This will only reset any customized accessibility settings. This will also not reset any keyboard or font settings and any accessibility settings in downloaded apps wont be affected either.

Factory Data Reset

This however is the hard reset we’re all afraid of. This will completely erase everything on your phone and this cannot be undone. It is highly recommended that your personal information has successfully transfered to another device, hard drive, or is fully backed up to a cloud service. A factory data reset Will completely erase:

  • Google account
  • System and app data
  • Settings
  • Downloaded apps
  • Music
  • Pictures
  • All other user data
  • Service provider apps and content
  • Private key stored in Samsung Blockchain Keystore
  • EVERYTHING
