Note Settings

Create a new note
If you want to create a new note:
- First open your Notes app, then click on the Compose button (the pencil and paper icon in the bottom right hand corner), then type in your note and click Done.
You can also access notes by adding them to your Control Center or Asking Siri.
Create a Folder
If you want to create a Folder:
- Go to the Folders Screen in the notes app
- Then select the Folder Icon with the Plus Sign in the bottom left hand corner of the Folders screen.
- Choose a name for your folder.
- Then click Done in the top right corner of the screen.
Format a Note
When you type in the first line of your note it is intended to be the title so it will be larger and bolder font than the rest of your note. If you want to change the formatting style of the first line:
- Go to Settings > Notes > New Notes Start With, then select an option.
- Or while you’re typing a Note, you can select the Format Icon (Aa) right above your keyboard (if you don’t see the Format Icon above the keyboard click on the Plus Icon + right above the right hand side of the keyboard) then you can change the format features.
Find a Note
If you have a lot of notes and you want to find one quickly you can:
- Swipe down at the top of the screen from your notes list and enter the note you’re looking for in the search bar
- Or if you’re currently viewing a specific note you can click on the More Icon (…) in the top right corner and click on Find in Note and enter the note you want to find in the text box.
Pin Notes
Pinning notes will allow you to access notes you need frequently at the top of your notes page so you don’t have to scroll through all your notes to find them.
To pin a note you can either:
- Swipe right on the note and hold it for a second
- Or you can click on the note you want to pin then click on the More Button (…) in the top right
- Or you can long press on the note before accessing it
- Then select the Pin Icon (it looks like a thumb tack).
Lock a Note
If you want to keep a note private and protected you can lock a note with either your iPhone’s lock screen passcode or a separate password.
Note: If you forget your passcode or password you will not be able to access the note. Make sure you don’t forget either of those.
To set up your lock screen passcode on a note or a password:
- Access the note you want to put a lock on.
- Then in the top right corner click on the More Icon (…).
- Then select either Use iPhone Passcode or Create a Password.
- Follow the instructions on screen to set it up.
- You can also long press on a note before accessing it and select Lock Note from the drop down menu.
Move a Note
If you want to move a note into a certain folder to organize it:
- You can long press on the note and select Move from the drop down menu.
- Or you can access the note you want to move and select the More Icon (…) in the top right corner and select Move Note.
- Then select the folder you want to move the note to.
Lines and Grids
If you want to structure the format of your Notes to create lines, tables, or grids you can:
- Access the note you want to format.
- Then click the More Icon (…) in the top right corner.
- Then select Lines & Grids.
- Then choose which format you’d like.
Use Light or Dark Background
If your iPhone is currently in dark mode and you want a white background background instead or vice versa you can:
- Access the note you want to change the background for.
- Then click on the More Icon (…) in the top right corner.
- Then either choose Light or Dark Background.
Share a Note
If you want to share a note with someone you can do this a few different ways:
- Either long press on a note and select Share from the drop down menu, then select a contact you want to share the note with.
- Or you can access the note and in the top right corner click on the Share Button (it looks like a square with an arrow pointing up) and select the contact you want to send it to.
Bullet Points
If you want to add bullet points to your note:
- Click on the Bullet point icon in the bottom left corner of your screen or if your keyboard is open you will see it right above your keyboard (if you don’t see it with your keyboard open, click on the Plus Icon + right above the right hand side of your keyboard)
- Then a bullet point will be automatically added to your notes
- If you want different types of bullet points, follow the formatting steps above.
Scan Documents/Add photos
If you want to scan documents to your notes or add photos:
- To scan documents you can either access a note and click on the More Icon (…) in the top right corner
- Then click on Scan and click the round button at the bottom to scan the document.
- Or while your keyboard is hidden, click on the Camera Icon at the bottom of the screen.
- This is also where you can add and take photos to add to your notes.
Delete a Note
To delete a note you can either:
- Long press on the note you want to delete and select Delete from the drop down menu.
- Or you can access the note and click on the More Icon (…) in the top right corner and click on Delete.
