Control Center

The Control Center on your iPhone gives you a quick way to access useful tools and controls that you may want to toggle on and off quickly without having to go through the settings or open apps to access them. You will have quick access to tools like Wi-Fi, airplane mode, bluetooth, flashlight, Focus (Do Not Disturb), screen recording, screen brightness, and more.

Open Control Center

On an iPhone with Face ID

To open Control Center swipe down from the top-right corner of your iPhone. If you want to close Control Center, swipe up from the bottom of the screen.

On an iPhone with a Home button

To open Control Center swipe up from the bottom. To close Control Center, swipe down or click on the Home button.

Access more controls in Control Center

You can access more options with some controls by touching and holding a specific control. As an example, you can do this with the following controls in Control Center:

  • Touch and hold the top-left group of controls, then click and hold the AirDrop icon to open up a list of AirDrop options.

  • You can also Touch and hold the camera icon to take a selfie, take a photo, or record a video.

Add and organize controls

You can add more controls and shortcuts to your Control Center by customizing it from the Control Center in settings. You can add tools and apps such as your calculator, live listen, screen recording, voice memos and more.

  • Navigate to Settings > Control Center.

  • Then to add or remove controls, Click on Add (+) or Remove (-) next to a control.

  • If you want to rearrange your controls, click on the Hamburger looking icon (three horizontal bars) next the control you want to move, then drag it to a new position.

Temporarily disconnect from a Wi-Fi network

From the Control Center, click on the Wi-Fi icon to turn it off, then if you want to reconnect it, simply click it again.

To toggle through a list of available Wi-Fi networks click and hold the Wi-Fi icon.

When you disconnect Wi-Fi from the Control Center, your Wi-Fi won’t be turned off, so when you disconnect from a network, features such as AirPlay and AirDrop will still work, and your iPhone will join known networks when you change locations or restart your iPhone. If you want to completely turn off Wi-Fi:

  • Navigate to Settings > Wi-Fi. (To turn on Wi-Fi again in Control Center, click on the Wi-fi icon again.)

Temporarily disconnect from Bluetooth devices

From the Control Center, click on the bluetooth icon to turn it off and click on it again to allow connections.

Just like Wi-Fi, Bluetooth isn’t completely turned off when you disconnect it so location accuracy and other services will still be enabled. If you want to turn off Bluetooth:

  • Navigate to Settings > Bluetooth, then turn Bluetooth off.
  • To turn on Bluetooth again in Control Center, click on the Bluetooth icon.

Turn off access to Control Center in apps

  • Navigate to Settings > Control Center, then turn off Access Within Apps.
  • Once you have enabled this setting, you can access the Control Center from within an app by swiping up from the bottom of the screen while the app is open.

Show Home Controls

When you’re at home with your iPhone, you will have the ability to view scenes and accessories that are relevant to that moment in your Control Center. For example, in the morning you may see a coffee maker and at night it could be replaced by the lamp next to your bed when it’s time to go to sleep.

  • Navigate to Control Center, then click a button to turn an accessory on or off, or touch and hold the button until the control appears.
  • If you want to see all of your favorite scenes and accessories, click on the home icon.
  • If you don’t want accessories to appear in Control Center, navigate to Settings > Control Center, then turn off Show Home Controls.
