Sounds and Vibration

Control the sounds and vibrations used to indicate notifications, screen touches, and other interactions, so you’ll always know what kind of alert you are getting. App alerts can also be prioritized depending on which notifications you’d like to see first.

Sound Mode

Change the sound mode on your device without using the Volume keys. To find this, swipe down from the top of the screen to open the Quick settings panel, and then tap the Settings icon. Tap Sounds and vibration, and then select a mode. You can select from Sound, Vibrate, or Mute. 

Note: Use the sound mode setting instead of the Volume keys to change the sound mode without losing your customized sound levels.

Vibrate

Control how and when your device vibrates. To find this, swipe down from the top of the screen to open the Quick settings panel, and then tap the Settings icon. Tap Sounds and vibration, and then select Vibrate.

Ringtone

Customize your call ringtone by choosing from preset sounds or adding your own. To find this, swipe down from the top of the screen to open the Quick settings panel, and then tap the Settings icon. Tap Sounds and vibration, and then tap Ringtone. You can also assign ringtones to specific contacts, just edit the contact and tap on Ringtone. You may need to tap View more to see the option. Now just tap a ringtone to hear a preview and select it, or tap Add (the plus sign) to use an audio file as a ringtone.

Notification sound

Choose a preset sound for all notification alerts. To find this, swipe down from the top of the screen to open the Quick settings panel, and then tap the Settings icon. Tap Sounds and vibration, and then tap Notification sound. Tap a sound to hear a preview and select it. 

Note: You can also customize unique notification sounds for each app using the App Settings Menu.

System sound

Choose a sound theme to use for touch interactions, charging, changing the sound mode, Samsung Keyboard, and more. To find this, swipe down from the top of the screen to open the Quick settings panel, and then tap the Settings icon. Tap Sounds and vibration, and then tap System sound. Select an available sound.

Volume

Set the volume level for call ringtones, notifications, media, and system sounds. To find this, swipe down from the top of the screen to open the Quick settings panel, and then tap the Settings icon. Tap Sounds and vibration, and then tap Volume. Then, drag the sliders for each sound type.

Note: You can also use the Volume keys to adjust the volume. When pressed, a pop-up menu shows the volume level and current sound type. You can tap the menu to expand it, and then adjust the volume of the other sound types by dragging their sliders.

Call Vibration Pattern, Notification Vibration Pattern, Vibration Intensity

Customize the options for Call vibration pattern and Notification vibration pattern from this screen. For Vibration intensity, you will have three bars to increase the intensity for when you’re getting a call, a notification, or the touch vibration when you’re clicking through your phone.

System Sound/Vibration Control

From here you will see a list of features you can customize that will allow your phone to make sound or vibrate depending on how you’re interacting with your phone. 

  • Touch interactions: Anytime you click on something on your phone it will make a sound and/or vibrate.
  • Screen lock/unlock: Anytime you lock or unlock your your phone it will make a sound.
  • Charging: Whenever you charge your phone it will make a sound and/or vibrate to notify you that your phone is charging.
  • Dialing keypad: When you are using the dial pad to make a call your phone will make sound and/or vibrate.
  • Samsung Keyboard: When ever you are texting/using the keyboard on your Samsung phone, it will make a sound and/or vibrate.
  • Camera Feedback: Whenever you take a picture or a video your phone will make a shutter sound and/or vibrate.

Sound quality and effects

Dolby Atmos

Enjoy Dolby Atmos audio quality when playing content. To find this, swipe down from the top of the screen to open the Quick settings panel, and then tap the Settings icon. Tap Sounds and vibration, and then tap Sound quality and effects. Then, select Dolby Atmos. Dolby Atmos will add clarity and separation to give you a superior listening experience.

Dolby Atmos for gaming

Dolby Atmos already makes mobile games sound amazing, but with your Galaxy device games will be even more lifelike and immersive. Dolby Atmos for gaming will amplify even the lowest nuance sounds, like footsteps in a video game.

To turn on this feature, from Settings, tap Sounds and vibration, and then tap Sound quality and effects. Tap the switch next to Dolby Atmos for gaming.

Note: The Dolby Atmos feature may only be available with a headset or Galaxy Buds connected or on select Samsung devices

Equalizer

If you’re listening to your favorite song, but something sounds weird, you can adjust the Equalizer settings to fix it. You can also adjust other audio settings to make the song sound even better.

From Settings, tap Sounds and vibration, and then tap Sound quality and effects. Tap Equalizer to choose your desired settings. You can choose Normal, Pop, Classic, Jazz, Rock, or Custom. Each of those options automatically adjusts the bass, treble, instruments, and vocal settings to fit the music you’re listening to.

UHQ Upscaler

Enhance the sound resolution of music and videos for a clearer listening experience. To find this, swipe down from the top of the screen to open the Quick settings panel, and then tap the Settings icon. Tap Sounds and vibration, and then tap Sound quality and effects. Tap UHQ upscaler and choose an upscaling option.

Note: This feature is not available with the Galaxy Buds models. It is only available with wired headsets and supported Bluetooth devices.

Adapt Sound

Customize the sound for each ear and enhance your listening experience.

  1. Tap Sound quality and effects again, and then tap Adapt sound.

  2. If needed, tap Allow, and then choose your age group.

  3. To hear a preview of the different options, tap the gear icon, tap Preview, and then follow the on-screen instructions.

  4. You can also create a sound profile based on your own hearing ability. Tap Test my hearing, and then tap Start.

  5. Follow the on-screen instructions to take a hearing test and create your very own sound profile.

Note: Tap Test my hearing to let your device identify the best sound for you.

Separate App Sound

Note: Separate app sound only works when the audio device selected is different from your device’s main audio output device.

  1. From Settings, search for and select Separate app sound.

  2. Tap Separate app sound again and then tap the switch next to Turn on now.

  3. Tap Select, and then select an app to play on the separate audio device. Then, tap Back.

  4. If needed, tap Audio device. Select the audio device you want to use for the app: you can choose either Phone or Bluetooth device. Just be aware that the Bluetooth option may only be available when a Bluetooth device is connected to your phone.

  5. Tap Back, and that app’s sound will play on the audio device you selected, whether it’s your phone’s speaker, Bluetooth speaker, or another device.
