Date & Time, Keyboard, Fonts, Language & REgion, Dictionary

Date & Time

To Change the Date & Time settings on your iPhone:

  • Navigate to Settings > General > Date & Time
  • Turn off Set Automatically.
    Once you’ve completed this step, you can now change the time zone or the date and time by:
  • Clicking on Time Zone then enter a city with the time zone that you prefer or click on the date to change the date and time.

Keyboards

Add or remove a keyboard for another language

  • Go to Settings > General > Keyboard.

  • Then click on Keyboards, and you’ll be given the following options:

    • Add a keyboard: Click on Add New Keyboard, then select a keyboard of your choice from the list. Follow the same steps if you want to add more keyboards.

    • Remove a keyboard: To remove a keyboard click on Edit, then click on Remove (-) next to the keyboard you want to get rid of then click Delete > Done.

    • Reorder your keyboard list: Click on Edit, drag the hamburger symbol (the three horizontal lines) to the right of the keyboard to add the keyboard to a new place on the list, then click on Done.

If you chose to add a keyboard thats in a different language, the language that the keyboard corresponds to is will be automatically added to the Preferred Language Order list. You can see this list and add languages to it if you go to Settings > General > Language & Region. Similarly to the keyboards, you can also choose to reorder the language list to alter how apps and websites display text.

Switch to another keyboard

  • While typing text, touch and hold the smiley face or the world icon on the keyboard.

  • Then click on the name of the keyboard you want to switch to.

You can also tap the smiley face or the world icon to alternate between keyboards. Click through to access other keyboards on your list.

Assign an alternative layout to a keyboard

You can also choose to have alternative keyboard layouts that don’t match the keys on your keyboard. To do this:

  • Navigate to Settings > General > Keyboard > Keyboards.

  • Then click on a language at the top of the screen, and select an alternative layout from the list.

Text Replacement

You can also set up text replacement which is an easy was to enter commonly used words or phrases by just entering a few characters. For example, type “ngl” to enter “Not gonna lie” but the acronyms don’t even need to make sense. You can also put “aaa” and make it type “Hello”.

Create a text replacement
  • While typing in a text box, touch and hold the smily face or world icon.

  • Then click on Keyboard Settings > Text Replacement.

  • Then click the add button (+) in the top right.

  • Then just simply type a phrase in the Phrase field and the text shortcut you want to use for it in the Shortcut field.

Have a word or phrase you use and don’t want it corrected?
  • Go to Settings > General > Keyboard > Text Replacement.

  • Click on the add button (+) in the top right, then enter your word or phrase in the Phrase field, but leave the Shortcut field blank.

One-Handed Keyboard

From here you can choose whether you want one handed keyboard off, left, or right hand.

Type with one hand

If you need to make it easier for yourself to type with one hand, you use this setting to move the keys closer to your thumb. This feature is available on most iPhone models with the exception of the iPhone SE (1st generation).

  • Touch and hold the smiley face or world icon.

  • Then click on one of the keyboard layouts.

  • If you want to center the keyboard again, click on the right or left edge of the keyboard.

All Keyboards

These are all the features that make your keyboards easier to use. You may turn them off as needed but they all come in handy.

Set typing options

Your iPhone has some useful typing features, like predictive text and auto-correct, that come in handy when you’re using you iPhone’s keyboard.

  • While you’re typing with the onscreen keyboard, touch and hold the smily face or world iconthen click on Keyboard Settings. You can also navigate to to Settings > General > Keyboard.

  • When you’ve reached the list, you can turn the typing features (below All Keyboards) on or off.

Dictation

iPhone also has a cool keyboard dictation feature so you can dictate text anywhere you can type it.

Depending on the iPhone model you have, general text dictation, like text messages and notes, can be used on your iPhone in different languages, and you don’t even need to access the internet for this to work. If you’re using a search field (like google) then the dictation will be processed on a server. When you’re using the dictation feature on your iPhone, there is no time limit or limit to the length of your dictation. You can either stop the dictation feature manually, or it will automatically stop when you cease to speak for 30 seconds.

Note: You may not be able to access the Dictation feature in all languages or in all countries or regions, and the details of the feature may depend on where you’re using it.

Emoji

Memoji Stickers

Another fun feature you can use with your iPhone is you can create your own Memoji that you can customize to match your appearance and personality then send it in Messages and use it as your face during a FaceTime call. You can also create an animated Memoji that mirrors your voice and facial expressions.

Fonts

If you’re tired of the standard boring fonts on your iPhone, you can go to the App Store and download fonts that you can use in documents you construct on your iPhone.

  • Once go to the App Store and download an app with new fonts, open the app and install the fonts.

  • If you want to view and manage installed fonts, go to Settings > General > Fonts.

Language & Region

When you first set up your iPhone, you can choose the language and region. You can also change the language and region by:

  • Going to Settings > General > Language & Region.

  • Then you can choose from the following settings:

    • The language for iPhone

    • The region

    • The calendar format

    • The temperature unit (Celsius or Fahrenheit)

  • If you want to add another language and/or keyboard to your iPhone, click on Add Language, then select the language you want to add.

Dictionary

How To Enable And Use The iPhone Dictionary Feature

If you want to enable iPhones dictionary feature:

  • Open the Settings > General > Dictionary.
  • Then click on the dictionary that you’d like to install and start the download
  • Note: You can have more than one dictionaries enabled at the same time.
