Safari – General

Autofill

Autofill will automatically put all of your information in on websites where you are required to put in your contacts information. Autofill will automatically put in:

  • Your Name as shown on My Card in your Contacts.
  • Your Address
  • Email
  • Phone number
  • Credit/Debit Card information

Note: Keeping your card information on autofill may be convenient but could also be a security risk if you autofill your card information on a Phishing scam website. If you want to use the autofill feature with the exception of your card information just turn off Credit Cards in this setting and enter your card information manually when you want to buy something.

Favorites

This will allow you to access favorite bookmarks when you enter an address, search, or create a new tab.

Block Pop-ups

Generally it is a good idea to keep Block Pop-ups turned on because pop ups can be both annoying and sometimes malicious but every once in awhile you may need to allow pop ups for trusted websites as it could be an issue with accessing certain features on websites.

Extensions

Extensions customize the way Safari works and can change the appearance or behavior of web content, add buttons, and more. For example, you can add both social media and news tabs that you frequent or block certain content on websites, and add other app features.

You can also turn on Share Across Devices if you want extensions to be on web browsers on not just your iPhone but your iPad or computer.

Downloads

Choose where you’d like to have downloaded content from Safari stored. whether is be on iCloud Drive, specifically on your iPhone or another cloud storage platform of your choice.

Tabs

So the default setting for tabs and search bar on Safari use to be defaulted at the top of your Safari app but recently it defaulted to the bottom of the screen and freaked everyone out. If you want to change it back, choose Single Tab instead of Tab Bar. However, if you choose single tab, you will also lose the ability to simply swipe between tabs without opening the tab icon in the bottom right corner.

Landscape Tab Bar

When this is on you be able to put your iPhone in landscape mode (turn it to the side) and view all of your open tabs at the top of the screen.

Allow Website Tinting

Website Tinting will replicate the top bars color tone with whatever website you’re visiting.

Open Links

From here you can choose to open links in a New Tab which is helpful if you generally intend to go back to the previous tab/website you were viewing, for example, if you are reading a news article and don’t want to exit out of your current webpage because you want to briefly look something up and continue reading. Or you can open links In Background so as soon as you click a link the link will bring you to a new screen over the one you were previously viewing.

Close Tabs

Here you can decide how long tabs will remain open before they are closed. You can choose between:

  • Manually (the tabs won’t ever close until you close them)
  • After One Day
  • After One Week
  • After One Month
