Display & Brightness

Dark Mode

Dark Mode will give your iPhone a dark color scheme that’s great for environments with low-light. When you have Dark Mode enabled, you can minimize the light that your phone projects so you can use your iPhone while, for example, you’re in a movie theater, without making other spectators angry.

To enable Dark Mode:

  • First open up Control Center, click on and hold the icon that looks like a sun with dotsthen click on the solar eclipse/yin yang looking icon to activate or deactivate Dark Mode.
  • Navigate to Settings > Display & Brightness, then choose Dark to activate Dark Mode, or click on Light to deactivate Dark Mode.

Schedule Dark Mode to turn on and off automatically

You can also set Dark Mode on a custom schedule or you can schedule Dark Mode to turn on at night automatically. To do this:

  1. Navigate to Settings > Display & Brightness.

  2. Turn on Automatic, then select Options.

  3. You can choose either Sunset to Sunrise or select a Custom Schedule.

If you’d like to set up a Custom Schedule, click on the options to schedule the times you want Dark Mode to switch on and off.

If you choose the option to switch on Dark Mode from Sunset to Sunrise, your iPhone will determine these times based on the region and timezone you have your iPhones clock set to.

Schedule Night Shift to turn on and off automatically

If you set a Night Shift schedule your phone LCD will project a warmer/softer light which is more comforting for the eyes and will help you go to sleep. The display brightness when its normal throughout the day will actually keep your brain awake so this setting is very helpful.

  • Navigate to Settings > Display & Brightness > Night Shift.

  • Then you want to turn the Scheduled switch on.

  • At the bottom underneath where it says Color Temperature, drag the slider below to the right towards More Warm.

  • Then click on From To, then choose one of two options; either Sunset to Sunrise or Custom Schedule.

If you choose the Custom Schedule setting, two options will appear underneath to customize when you want Night Shift to Turn On and Turn Off.

If you choose the Sunset to Sunrise option, your iPhone will automatically turn on Night shift based on your geographical location and timezone.

Note: You will not see the Sunset to Sunrise option if you have your location switched off.

  • To make sure your location is turned on, navigate to Settings > Privacy & Security > Location Services, then turn the switch on.
